Painting intuitively can sometimes feel like that, and without the right guidance we can get lost along the way. Using intentional touchstones provides a framework to help us reconnect with our path ... like dropping breadcrumbs so we can find our way when we are lost. In this class Michelle Turbide will start out with a discussion on different types of touchstones and how you can use them in your work.

She will then demonstrate her abstract intuitive style of painting dreamscapes using her favorite touchstones of design elements, compositional guidelines, and of course a curious explorer heart to lead the journey. Because after all, it’s the path that leads us home.

We then will create a mixed media piece where first everyone will be given a starting point and some ideas. Then your work will take its own path that comes from within: a lesson on trusting yourself and your creativity, your intuition, and how it’s okay to not know each step until you actually take it.

The sea however, also brought us wealth and prosperity. We traveled the Seven Seas with our ships. Shamelessly plundered distant countries and brought home exotic treasures that made us richer than rich in the Golden Age. With a deep respect for the sea, the Dutch painted seascapes countless times.

In this class Dutch artist and designer Marieke Blokland takes you by the hand and shows you how she dives into this month's theme 'Sea'. Marieke takes you to a Dutch museum researching, exploring and collecting sources of inspiration. She tells you how she looks at things and shows you what kind of inspirational material she collects on her way. With the collected material Marieke will start a process of sketching. We will use fineliners, ink and water colors amongst other art supplies. Next we will use our sketches for a mixed media art project. By giving you insight into her research and sketching process, Marieke hopes to make a positive contribution to your quest to finding your own unique voice.
